President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the present Government is trying to address the issue of energy shortages and expressed the hope that after two and a half years the country would come out of this situation. He regretted that in the past no serious efforts were made to overcome the energy crisis or deal with the menace of terrorism.
Speaking at the PTEA Export Excellence Awards ceremony here on Wednesday, he highlighted the vital role of textile exporters in the country’s development and said that entrepreneurs and business community is invaluable asset of the country and no meaningful economic development is possible without their enterprise, co-operation and active input in the formulation of economic policies. He said that Government is fully committed that economic growth is the key to generate employment opportunities and to counter the inflation and bring economic prosperity and is undertaking all possible initiatives to improve security situation in the country and to restore the confidence of the businessmen and investors so as to generate robust economic activity in the country and to put Pakistan’s economy on the path of sustainable growth. Pak-China Economic Corridor is the true example of Government’s efforts. This project would open new avenues of development enhancing the importance of this region and transform Pakistan into a hub of regional trade activities. He said that our forces are bravely fighting against the terrorists and have achieved great success. Government is fully committed that the operation Zarb-e-Azam will continue till the elimination of the last terrorist and Peace will be restored in Pakistan under any circumstance. It is a fact that gas reservoirs in the country are decreasing and gas supply is not sufficient for industrial necessities, he said and added that Government is injecting LNG in the system to overcome the shortfall. Economy is recovering day by day, as the Government is successfully injecting the fresh blood into the sick economy through restoration of confidence of the national and foreign investors, he said.
President said that country’s economy is under stress as elements like terrorism and extremism have shed negative impacts on the economy but it is matter of great satisfaction that our exporters perform very well even in severe conditions and earn precious forex for the country and help to strengthen the economy. He was confident that with passing of time, situation will become better and trade and business will be boosted. He acknowledged the efforts of the textile exporters, who despite all the handicaps keep export flag flying. He congratulated the award winners.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Pakistan Textile Exporters Association Asghar Ali welcomed the President at the Award ceremony and briefly enlighten the core issues of textile industry. He acknowledged the sincere efforts of the Government in boosting the economy and assured textile exporter’s full co-operation. Highlighting the importance of textile sector in national economy, he said that textile industry is the highest forex earning sector in Pakistan which is providing jobs to 40% workforce. He stressed the need of immediate removal of challenges faced by this important sector.
Group Leader PTEA Ahmad Kamal said that it is very encouraging for us that both, the President and the Prime Minster are from the business community and can understand that in today’s world the strength of a country lies in its prosperity and growth. A country’s destiny is no longer determined by its strength on the battlefield; it is determined by the strength of the economy. There is a need of immediate and concrete measures to bring the textile industry on track. On one side the governments is making efforts to bring foreign investment in the country but on the other side existing investment made by the local investors are striving to survive.
Earlier, the president distributed the PTEA Life Time achievement awards and PTEA Export Excellence Awards among the winners. The companies and individuals were acknowledged for their best performance in textile exports.
Governor Punjab Malik Rafique Ahmad Rajwana and Secretary Ministry of Textile Industry Amir M. Khan Marwat also attended the function.
